What makes our decaf roast so unique?
Coffee. Some of us drink it for the buzz it gives us, that kickstart that helps us climb mountains – both literal and metaphorical. Some of us, however, simply enjoy the taste of coffee, and prefer our brews without the caffeine kick.
At Ridgeline, we know how important a good decaf cup of coffee is, which is why we are proud of our Oeschinen roast. Named after one of Switzerland’s most breath-taking mountain lakes, the Oeschinen roast (pronounced ees-keen-en) has the rich flavours of dark chocolate that we associate with Swiss chocolatiers, as well as a smooth body and a hint of nougat.
Swiss Water Technology
More importantly, though, the Oeschinen roast is named after the Swiss lake because it has been decaffeinated using Swiss Water Technology. While decaf coffee can often feel like it’s missing something beyond the caffeine, this process assures that all of the original flavours are preserved – so you get all the beautiful undertones of the stunning roast.
We are committed to producing coffee that both tastes great and is good for the planet that we are so passionate about. The Swiss Water process allows the coffee to taste incredible without using any nasty chemicals that impact on the environment. Instead of using chemical solvents like methylene chloride or ethyl acetate, the organic process uses the pristine water of the coastal mountains of British Columbia, Canada to remove 99.9% of the caffeine. As a result, you get delicious, complicated roasts that don’t damage the environment.
